Worship

Mary Lang-Marshall

“Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from Heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the Glory of the Lord filled the house.  And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the Glory of the Lord had filled the Lord's house.  And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the Glory of the Lord UPO” the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped” (II Chronicles 7:1-3).

“And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy Prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice” (II Chronicles 7:12).  The Old Testament shows a prelude of what God is doing in the New.  Worship brings us to a place of intimate communion, spirit (true man; inner man) to Spirit.

In worship there is an awareness of God's Presence.  In the Old Testament the priests and the Levites were unable to stand when God's Glory entered the house.  When God overshadows this house (body), the Weight of His Glory brings awe and change.

In worship the soul and body must surrender to the spirit (the inner man).  When the spirit communicates with the Holy Spirit, the soul and body has nothing to do, but yield and allow the Holy Ghost to flow.  We move from the natural to the supernatural, submitting our spirit (the inner man) to interact with God.

When we go before the Throne of God, it must be with love and humility.  As we bow and prostrate, we show forth an attitude of submission.  Coming before the Throne of God cannot be obtained by natural means.  God interrupts the natural, to touch the spirit (heart) of His people.

John (the Beloved) could not see all that God was doing until he moved from the natural into the spirit.  Revelation 4:1 says, “... Come: up hither, and I will. shew thee things which must be hereafter.  And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a Throne was set in Heaven, and One sat on the Throne.”  We must be ready to hear and obey.

As the deep calls to the deep, our spirit man will pull and tug on the Heart of God.  The spirit continues to long and hunger for more of God, like things begat like things.  We have access to the Holy of Holies, through the Blood of Jesus.

We can only enter through the Spirit.  II Corinthians 12:3-4 says, “And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth:) how that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.”  God wants His children f~ experience His Glory, more than the children of Israel, because He lives on the inside of us.

He wants us to have a relationship with Him.  Worship is available to all, not a few.  When our spirit meets with the Spirit of God we connect spirit to Spirit.  No flesh can dwell in the Presence of God.  Worship is an inward act.  It brings us into Oneness with the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.  “The Glory which thou gavest Me I have given them; that they may be one, even as We are One: I in them, and thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in One” (John 17:21-23)

Matthew 6:10 says, “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven.”  Getting saved is just the beginning.  God wants us to live as though we were in the Garden of Eden, communion with Him day by day; hour by hour; second by second.

We should be a witness unto our Father's Glory.  The more we worship, the more we are like Him.  “Let your conversation be without covertousness; and be content with such things as ye have, for he hath said, I will never leave thee, not forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).

Psalm 91:1 says, “He that dwelleth in the Secret Place of the most High shall abide under the Shadow of the Almighty.”  Abiding gives us stability.  Jude 20-21 says, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy Faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the Love of God, looking for the Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.”  As we linger in the Secret Place of the Most High, we receive the courage and the strength to fight a good fight of Faith.

In the Old Testament the people went to the Temple in Jerusalem to worship.  In the New Testament we can worship at anytime and any place (John 4:21-23).  God did not designate one particular place to worship.

As a three part being, we carry and possess the sanctuary (spirit; inner man) in which we can worship.  If we do not understand the difference between praise and worship, we will continue to attribute praise as worship.  Worship brings forth change.  You cannot stay the same after visiting the Holy of Holies.  God's Presence has an everlasting effect on those who seek to know Him.

Time after time we must shed this old body (outer court) and this old soul (Holy Place) to earnestly seek the Pureness of God.  The longer we linger, the more refreshed and renewed we are.  What we see is not the True man.  The True man is the spirit.

When we worship, we must worship in spirit and in Truth (John 4:24).  Worship cannot be seen by man, true worship lifts the spirit to a higher height in God.  In worship we submit and the Spirit takes over, but we still must yield“Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worship” (II Samuel 12:20).  David prepared himself before coming before the Ark of God.

We worship Him in the stillness of His Peace.  It can only be done through a willing heart and it must be intentional.  Where Holiness and worship is, God will always show up.  When true worship comes forth, the Lord will manifest His Power.

Throughout the Bible we see the results after someone touched God.  Wisdom and worship goes hand in hand.  Through worship we hear the Voice of God. Through Wisdom we know how to execute what we heard.

the Will of God.  We cannot allow these precious moments to flee from us.  Time is winding down.  Rehearsal is great, but the real thing is better.  Live unto God as if it is your last day.  It just might be!

Worship the Lord with your whole heart.  Yield to the Spirit of God.  The God of the universe desires worship.  Worship belongs to Him.
