A Godly Mother
Prophetess Dr Mary Lang Marshall, Temple Hills, MD
Catagory: Volume 2, Issue 7 and 8
A godly mother is a wise mother. She speaks with knowledge, she moves in wisdom, and she brings forth understanding. She is dedicated to honoring and serving the Lord, and is committed to training her children to be leaders to build and spread the Kingdom of God, in the Name of Jesus.
The home of this mother is filled with praise and worship. She hums and sings songs throughout her busy day. The laughter in the home is contagious and the joy can be heard through the voices of her children. Even during bad situations, she has the strength to smile. When bad times come, this godly mother enters into a secret place to meet with God in a time of prayer. She spends long hours seeking the heart of God and through tears of sadness and joy, she returns with a sound of victory. At that moment she rests in the Word that God has spoken. As she heeds the Word of God, the burden of life is lifted. The time spent before the Lord brings peace and comfort. She cherishes her time in the Word, because the Word unfolds the issues of life and the Word holds the key to raising a godly family.
In Proverbs 31, a mother counsels her son. She explains to him the virtue of a good wife and a godly mother. A virtuous woman is priceless. A godly mother is a virtuous woman. She uses every opportunity to impart the greatest gift she has, the gift of Life. Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it. In due season that mother looks for a harvest. She expects the Word to come alive within her children. She allows the Spirit of God to broaden her children’s horizon. Through them her boundaries are extended beyond the four walls of the home. As she moves from place to place, she is welcomed with open arms. Her words are sweet, kind and gentle to the ears of babes. When she gives advice, it is taken to heart because she gives it in love. Even her enemies are at peace with her.
Because of her faithfulness her children reap the blessings. Her time is valuable and she spends it wisely. Her most valuable time is spent cultivating her relationship with her children, and looks forward to them asking questions. Her life is touched when her children respond to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
This godly mother is considered to be an asset to other children in her neighborhood. She teaches her children to love God, love others, and to love themselves. When others are in need or unloved, she embraces them with the spirit of Love. She labors diligently for the sake of the Gospel and the Kingdom of God. First Corinthians 3:6 says, I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. Whatever state she finds herself, she is content.
A godly mother does what Mary did for her son Jesus. When Gabriel told Mary she was to have a child, Mary said, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And Mary said, behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word, Luke 1:34,38. Mary was highly favored of God and He trusted her with His glorious Promise, God trusted Mary to do what was right.
A godly mother must understand that God knows her family. He knows the intent and the heart of each child, and He knows the directions they will go. Take a hint from Mary the mother of Jesus, she heard from God, kept fresh in her memory those things that the angel had spoken. Mary accepted the Plan for her life, and the unborn child that she carried who was the Savior of the world.
Rebekah dealt with a different situation, but the plan of God was still carried out. Genesis 25:22-23 says, the children (Jacob and Esau) struggled together within her; and she said, if it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord. And the Lord said unto her, two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
God knew the life each child would choose. Jacob was dishonest and Esau was reckless and disobedient, but God had a plan for both of them. God gave Rebekah the responsibility to raising her sons and it was up to her to follow the leading of the Lord. It did not matter how they started out, it was the input that made the difference. God uses men like Jacob to carry out His plan upon the earth and He uses mothers to teach them. A godly mother knows what will make or break a child. A soft answer is enough for one, while another may need a strong voice--one with authority. A godly mother is always open to heed instructions from the Lord.
Many times a godly mother goes without to meet the needs of her children. She rejoices when others are blessed and cries when others are sad. She may wear many hats--as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, or an aunt, etc. A godly mother always puts herself last and she esteems others more highly than herself. Her children arise up, and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praiseth her, Proverbs 31:28.
She rekindles her fellowship with the Lord everyday. She recognizes the need of repentance on a daily basis. After a long day she heads for home, she longs to see her family. Her heart is toward the children and her mouth is full of “hellos” and her ears are set in motion to hear their stories. At the end of a day she prays a prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of others and herself.
A godly mother is full of God’s Love. Love covers a multitude of sins. Love causes her to see through the eyes of the Lord and sees the hearts of her children. A godly mother carries good memories in her heart.
So on this Mother’s Day just remember, your mother is carrying good memories of you in her heart. Happy Mother’s Day!
